Travis Fish (b. 1989, Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin) lives and works between Los Angeles and Hudson, New York. He studied at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, worked as a studio assistant for painters he admired, lived for some years in Hong Kong and Korea, and moved to New York in 2015. He calls himself sweater obsessed, and paints branded sweaters, sports hoodies and artist shirts at large scale in acrylic, whimsical and distorted, the canvas made to feel like fabric. The garments are not chosen at random: they signify wealth and mobility, and he often appropriates paintings by other artists of his generation as the print on the shirt. Fast fashion and fast painting, set against the slowness of painting itself. The work began with the Migos, and narrowed to Offset after Fish met the rapper's mother in a New York shoe shop in 2019 and she introduced them. He paints thinly, watered down, dancing around a canvas laid on the floor, waiting for one layer to dry before the next.
Solo exhibitions include That Dog in Me, which opened Jupiter Contemporary's New York space in 2024, Set at Jupiter Contemporary, Miami Beach (2022), Photocopy Breakfast at Gana Art, Seoul (2021), Jumpers at Duve, Berlin (2020) and a solo show with JRP Editions in 2025. His work has been shown at Carl Kostyál in Stockholm, at Superzoom in Paris and Miami, at CANADA and Tripoli Gallery in New York, at Eric Firestone Gallery in East Hampton and in The (Hoodie) at Het Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam. He has been covered by ARTnews and Interview Magazine.
In 2022 Fish took part in the group exhibition Tutti Frutti at Plan X Milan.
