Liam Fallon (b. 1995, Stoke-on-Trent) lives and works in London. He graduated from Manchester School of Art in 2017, where he also won the Alumni Prize and the Manchester Academy of Fine Arts prize. He works in jesmonite, MDF, pigment and spray paint, taking mundane architecture and street furniture, brick walls, hydrants, doorways, and remaking them until they misbehave. Broken walls get laced up like boots, others unzip, hydrants lose their function, sculptures grow socks and crawl for the exit. The work sits on the line between public and private, on how queer culture is coded into shared space and read by those who know how to read it, and it takes its theatricality from the writing and films of Jean Genet. The objects are conceived as monuments to something usually kept discreet, and built to stop being discreet.
His first solo exhibition, Supersymmetry, opened at The Turnpike in Greater Manchester in 2019. Solo shows have followed at Castor Gallery in London and Richard Heller Gallery in Los Angeles, both in 2022, and with Tuesday to Friday in Valencia. He has exhibited at König Galerie in Berlin, Carl Kostyál in Stockholm and Arsenal Contemporary in New York. In 2018 he received the Lim Ai Fang Award for sculpture at the Woon Foundation Prize, and in 2020 a Henry Moore Foundation Artist Award, having been shortlisted for the Mark Tanner Sculpture Prize in 2018 and 2020.
Fallon took part in the group exhibition Tutti Frutti 2 at Plan X Capri in 2023.
