Created exclusively for the Untitled Art Fair in Miami, this series by Maia Regis invites viewers to explore a richly layered visual world where the familiar meets the abstract. Drawing inspiration from iconic artists like Monet, Picasso, Matisse, and Guston, Regis seamlessly blends these references with everyday objects and vibrant natural imagery. The result is a body of work that feels both grounded and dreamlike—evoking memories of the Mediterranean and Southern interiors.
A key feature of the series is its openness. The works don’t tell a fixed story but instead invite viewers to engage deeply, discovering new details with every gaze. Blue tones flow between sky and sea, shimmering reflections bring the canvases to life, and raw, “unfinished” areas expose the artist’s process, making the works feel spontaneous and alive. These contrasts—between precision and looseness, the familiar and the abstract—create a sense of rhythm and movement, much like a jazz improvisation.
