ThankYouX is the artist name of Ryan Wilson, who lives and works in Los Angeles. He grew up in Orange County and began in 2009 spraying stencilled homages to Andy Warhol across Los Angeles at night while working as a graphic artist and art director by day, signing them ThankYouX, a name the blogs assigned him before he adopted it himself. The work moved from the street into abstraction and then into geometric painting and sculpture, built on cubes, layered planes and hard colour. Technology has run alongside it throughout, from 360 degree virtual reality spaces to paintings with screens embedded in the canvas, so that the physical work carries the movement of the digital work. He was among the first artists to mint NFTs in 2020, and remains one of the few whose practice sits equally on both sides of the divide.
His first museum presentation came in Pop to Now: Warhol and His Legacy at the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art in Charlotte in 2022. His solo exhibition Inertia opened at Sotheby's in Beverly Hills, and he has exhibited paintings and sculptures in London, Los Angeles, Miami, New York and Hong Kong, with work shown on Nifty Gateway and sent into orbit. He was commissioned by Paul McCartney, who turned the resulting work into a lithograph for his tour, was chosen by Snapchat to make thirteen works for their first office, made a sculpture for the Sundance Film Festival and has collaborated with Samsung, Adidas, Lexus, Soho House and Sanrio.
In 2026 Plan X presented his work alongside Claire Silver at Zero 10, Art Basel's platform dedicated to art of the digital era, at its Asia debut in Hong Kong.
