DeeKay Kwon (b. 1989, South Korea) lives and works in San Francisco. He spent over a decade as an animator for clients including Google, Apple and American Express, posting personal work on the side for seven years, and in 2021 left commercial animation to make art full time. His animations are short loops built from the visual language of retro video games, following small everyday moments, family, memory, the passage of time, with characters that come alive inside the frame and a tone that stays warm rather than ironic. He works under the idea that art should be for everyone.
In 2022 his work Life and Death sold for one million dollars. In 2025 he received the Digital Art Award for Moving Image presented by HOFA Gallery and Phillips. His work has been shown at the Museum of Contemporary Art Busan and at The Gateway: Korea, and in 2026 Art Basel Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Tourism Board commissioned DeePle The People, projected each evening onto the facade of the Hong Kong Club Building during the fair.
DeeKay's work was presented by Plan X at Art Dubai in 2025.
